EA Philippines Attended EAG London 2025!
Last June 6-8, EA Philippines attended EAG London together with nine other Filipinos coming from various organizations including the Centre for Effective Altruism, Impact Ops, Thrive Philanthropy, and others.
EA Philippines held our June Komunidad featuring Rika Gabriel, Scale Welfare, and Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Initiative!
Last June 28, EA Philippines held our monthly Komunidad featuring Rika Gabriel from the Centre for Effective Altruism, Ameer and Koen from Scale Welfare, and Tom and Micaella from Lead Acid Recycling Battery Initiative.
We kicked off the program with an insightful remote talk from Rika, who shared valuable reflections on what makes a “good” high-impact charity founder. She explored the real challenges faced by early-stage charities, gave an overview of today’s charity founding landscape, and offered practical advice for those considering this path.
Following Rika’s talk, we heard from Koen and Ameer, the founders of Scale Welfare, and Tom and Micaella, the founders of Lead Acid Recycling Battery Initiative, who walked us through their unique career journeys into the charity space. They gave us a glimpse into the early stages of building their organization and shared concrete ways for others to get involved in their mission.
EA Philippines capped off our In-Depth Fellowship
Last June 14, EA Philippines officially closed our In-Depth Fellowship, a 7-week program where fellows had the opportunity to deeply engage with and challenge EA ideas. In the closing event, fellows were asked to revisit their personal Theory of Change for impact that they created in week one of the program. Fellows also had a chance to reflect on their growth throughout the program, and how they have shifted their perspective of impacts after deeply engaging with various EA ideas and principles. Congratulations to all of our fellows, and to our organizing team for running a successful program!
🇵🇭 Philippine EA: Local News
Our local EA-aligned initiatives and organizations are continuing their tremendous work in doing the most good they can. We’d like to highlight and commend the recent milestones and achievements of the following local EA initiatives, and to resound any opportunities they are offering:
Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Initiative (LABRI). LABRI, co-founded by Tom Daniels and Micaella Rogers, is a Charity Entrepreneurship-incubated organization that seeks to reduce the harms of lead-acid battery recycling. They are currently in Metro Manila on a scoping visit and they need translators to join them for stakeholder visits (predominantly scrapyards, starting in Mandaluyong). This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to gain volunteering experience with a high-impact organization. You can express your interest via this form.
Effective Altruism Blue. Effective Altruism Blue recently announced their new organizing team! We would like to congratulate Ronnel, Bruno, Harket, Fons, and Eman on their new journey to lead the EA space in their university. Congratulations!
Phlourish Mental Health Initiative Inc. Phlourish is offering sub-grants and training to youth-serving organizations interested in supporting adolescent mental health through their Guided Self-Help Toolkit Program, designed for ages 13-18. The program includes toolkits on mental health, habits, and support systems, along with weekly mentor check-ins. They're looking for schools, NGOs, youth groups, and LGUs—especially those in low-resource communities—to apply by July 4, 2025.
