EA Summit: Philippines 2025 will be opening applications on tonight!
Mark your calendars, an Effective Altruism Summit is happening in the Philippines this year! 🇵🇭
The EA Summit: Philippines 2025 is a one day learning and networking event for individuals across the Philippines who are thinking seriously about how they can make the world a better place. It will bring together people from a wide range of fields to explore how evidence, reason, and compassion can guide our efforts toward doing the most good.
This event is open to people who are new to effective altruism, existing members of our local EA community, and any experienced EAs interested in sharing opportunities or providing mentorship!

EA Philippines Community Builders Workshop!
Last May 31 to June 1, EA Philippines held their Community Builders Workshop! The workshop aimed to help support budding local organizers by increasing their knowledge, understanding, and confidence in community building. We were joined by 19 participants from EA Blue, EA Taft, EA UPD, EA Davao, and other universities and organizations such as the University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines — Los Baños. Thank you to everyone who has attended!
EA Philippines kicked-off its In-Depth Fellowship!
On May 3, EA Philippines launched our In-Depth fellowship, a 7-week program where our eight fellows will engage deeply with EA principles, ideas, and thoughts. We have held four learning sessions so far where we’ve tackled topics such as rationality, criticisms of EA, and addressing bias. We are now on Week 5 of the fellowship and will be concluding the program on June 14.
EA Philippines released its Progress Report and Challenges and Opportunities for Learning Report!
On May 23, EA Philippines officially released our Progress Report for April 2024 to March and our Challenges and Opportunities for Learning Report for December 2023 to March 2025. In these reports, we outline key highlights, successes, and milestones in EA Philippines, along with some of the challenges we encountered and what we have learned from them.

🇵🇭 Philippine EA: Local News
Our local EA-aligned initiatives and organizations are continuing their tremendous work in doing the most good they can. We’d like to highlight and commend the recent milestones and achievements of the following local EA initiatives:
EA Davao. EA Davao officially launched their Introductory Fellowship last May 17. The fellowship is a four-week program where fellows will have a chance to engage in thoughtful conversations about doing good more effectively and what that could mean for their lives and communities. Congratulations, EA Davao!
Scale Welfare. Scale Welfare is a new charity working to improve farmed fish welfare. They are incubated under Charity Entrepreneurship and have recently opened applications for a field coordinator (applications now closed). They will be beginning their scoping in the Philippines in June!
WhiteBox Research. The second cohort of WhiteBox Research's AI Interpretability Fellowship is coming to a close. They are running their Demo Day on June 1 and June 2 where their cohort members will share 10 research projects covering various aspects of transformer interpretability and evals, with each presentation followed by a short Q&A.
Animal Empathy Philippines. Last May 31, Animal Empathy Philippines participated in Animal Welfare Conference '25 held in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan organized by Tails,Trees & Seas.Org.

New funding opportunities on digital sentience
Leading researchers in academia and AI companies have raised the possibility that AI models could soon be sentient. The Navigation Fund, Macroscopic Ventures, and Longview Philanthropy are offering funding to research or promote sensible views on the potential consciousness, sentience, moral status, or experiences of AI systems. We invite applications for:
Research fellowships ($55-$125k/year for 1-2 years, research/travel support, compute)
Career transition funding (stipends to pivot into this area)
